3D BOHO COLLAGE
Gwen Lafleur
Saturday May 4, 2019
In this full-day workshop, we’ll use my 3D Boho Collage techniques to create your own dimensional collaged element. We’ll also create a background for your substrate and then use embellishments, embossing powder, glazes, and collage to bring it all together into a unique, finished piece of mixed media artwork that’s ready to display.
Students Should Bring:
- A craft mat, baby wipes, scissors, water cup, pencil, and ruler
- Black gesso (or colored gesso or a black or colored craft paint will work)
- Sharp scissors (Tim Holtz or similar are good)
- 1/2″ flat paint brush, detail brush (suitable for use with gesso & matte medium)
- Matte medium
- Canvas board or cradled panel as your substrate (no larger than 6″ x 8″)
- A small selection of collage papers / thin ephemera (for both the background and your collaged image)
- A few colors of acrylic paint (if you’d like an accent color in your collaged piece, and to use in your background.) 2-3 colors that work well together, plus I recommend gold or bronze.
- Tacky glue or heavy gel medium
Optional:
- Bone folder
- Heat gun
- Tweezers / skewer / hat pin
- Flexible measuring tape (I don’t measure, but if you prefer to be more precise)
- Embossing powders (if you have specific colors or a brand you prefer)
- A stencil or stamp to use as your pattern (if you have something you know you want)
- Embellishments to add to your collaged piece (ie, buttons, broken jewelry, fibers, etc…)
Teacher will provide:
- Chipboard for your 3D shape
- Some embellishments, embossing powder, and collage papers to share
- Some stencils and patterns to share
- PVA glue
- Heat gun to share
